The Beginning of my Yoga Journey

Since April 2023, I’m officially a 200h Yoga Teacher. But my journey started a long time ago, when I was still a student, figuring out who I am and where I want to go in life.

How Yoga found me

During my first semester at university in Zurich, I found myself submerged in a whirlwind of assignments, exams, and the constant hustle of student life. The mounting stress began taking a toll on both my physical and mental well-being, prompting me to seek a respite from the chaos. That’s when I stumbled upon a yoga class offered on campus.

Intrigued by the prospect of finding a balance between my demanding academic schedule and the need for personal wellness, I decided to give yoga a try. Walking into that first class, I had no idea how profoundly it would impact my life.

The gentle guidance of the instructor and the serene atmosphere of the yoga studio provided a stark contrast to the frenetic pace of university life. As I delved into the practice, I discovered not only the physical benefits of increased flexibility and strength but also a profound sense of mental clarity and calm. The intentional focus on breath and mindfulness became a welcome refuge, allowing me to momentarily detach from the pressures of academia.

Over time, yoga evolved into more than just a weekly class. It became a cherished ritual, a sanctuary where I could recalibrate my mind and body. The simple act of rolling out my yoga mat became a symbolic gesture, signaling a pause in the hectic rhythm of university life.

Yoga asana not only offered a physical escape but also a valuable perspective shift. It taught me the importance of being present, cultivating self-awareness, and embracing the journey rather than fixating on the destination. As I continued to weave yoga into my routine, I found myself better equipped to navigate the challenges of university with a newfound sense of resilience and inner peace.

In retrospect, starting yoga at university wasn’t just a response to stress. It was a transformative journey that enriched my overall well-being. Therefore, I tend to think that yoga found me, not the other way around. The lessons learned on the mat continue to resonate in my daily life, serving as a source of balance and harmony amidst the demands of academia.
